The history of the Daewoo company originates in far 1967 when in South Korea some enterprises which were engaged in electrical equipment release, кораблестроениея, and also industrial equipment were formed.
At this time in the country there was a nabolshy workshop on repair of the American Shinjin Motors SUVs which turned subsequently into big plant. The Shinjin Motors plant carried out the activity together with the American auto giant of General Motors.
After a while the Daewoo company redeemed the Korean part of the Korean-American plant Shinjin Motors and began together with Americans in common to them to operate. Cooperation of Americans with Koreans lasted till 1993.
At that time the government allowed to make cars only to four enterprises among which there was Shinjin Motors therefore the Daewoo concern and bought part of its actions. Only in 1986 the first car descended from Daewoo conveyors under the name Opel Kadett E. Release of this car became possible for two reasons: first, the Daewoo company bought the license from Americans on Opel Kadett E release, secondly, from Germany the equipment on which Opel Kadett E assembly on the Korean earth was carried out was ordered and received. This car in South Korea was issued without weighty changes and carried the name Daewoo Racer.
On the American earth of Daewoo Racer was issued in a sports segment under the name Pontiac Le man.
In two years the car descended from the Korean conveyor under the name Daewoo Tico. This car was on sale mainly in Asian camps as had tiny dimensions and the small motor, it tried to sell on the former Soviet Union, but because of the small size and the low-power engine this car didn't become popular. It was one more copy of other producer, however, this time an example was taken with Suzuki Alto.
Nine years later the Opel Kadett E model was subject to essential updatings and is renamed into Daewoo Nexia. This car was in great demand as spare parts with Daewoo Racer perfectly approached to Daewoo Nexia.
The management of the company made the decision on opening of four more plants on release of superpopular Daewoo Nexia (Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Romania).
In 1994 Koreans released the first independent Daewoo Espero car. This car differed among similar exclusive and very esthetic appearance. Over the Daewoo Espero project the Italian studio Bertone worked. By the way, the Daewoo Espero car is there was the most available creation of the Italian designers.
As we know, in the mid-nineties the XX century in Asia serious financial crisis burst, and this situation was negatively reflected in the Daewoo company.
Koreans stood on the verge of crash, but all of them decided to risk and made all the investments in development of new models, attracting known inzhiringovy and design studio with calculation that these four cars will be bought in Europe and the Southern Asia.
The management of the Daewoo company counted on superprofit, as a result they hardly made ends meet. The models Matiz, Lanos, Nubira, Leganza captured themselves quite wide part of the market, but a special agiotage didn't use.
At the same time with release of four new models of cars the big technical centers in England, Germany and Korea open.
Daewoo Lanos turned into the national car, after all it differed quality and the small price (since 2005 the Daewoo Lanos car started being issued under the name Chevrolet Lanos).
Daewoo Leganza was the first car of Koreans which belonged to a business class and it by right consider as the comfortable car which sometime was issued the Daewoo company.
Despite good rates of sales, the Daewoo company was in a bad financial condition. But this fact didn't prevent the company to buy a known automobile brand of SsangYong in 1998. Purchase of this brand Koreans wanted to master release popular for that time in Europe of SUVs, but this step didn't become successful.
Released SUVs successfully are realized in domestic market, and the European market already which time for Koreans remains inaccessible in respect of high sales.
In 1998 the world was seen by new model under the name Daewoo Matiz. This model was the small car intended for trips around the city therefore it quickly won popularity at Europeans.
With opening of new plants in Eastern Europe the economic condition of the Daewoo company didn't improve, it still wasn't than to give the credits. As a result the decision on Daewoo company sale as the government didn't want to invest the money in this company and to nationalize it was made. From the very beginning of Daewoo wanted to buy both fiatovets, and fordovets, and the American giant of General Motors, but as a result of the Daewoo company I began to belong to the last as Italians at the time of purchase had no money, and fordovets counted purchase of the Korean company by non-profitable business.
After transition of the Daewoo company to property of the giant of General Motors (2002), Korean company it was subjected to deep reorganization. Changes concerned not only productions, but also emblems and names. Now the Daewoo company was called as GM Daewoo Auto and Technology Co.
From this point all new models which arrived on the European market, started carrying the name Chevrolet, and that on the South Asian market - Suzuki. Despite everything diligence of Americans to return the Daewoo companies former glory, they didn't manage it.
Since that moment as Daewoo started belonging to General Motors of business of the company started going slowly down. General Motors slowly, but surely eradicated the Daewoo brand from the different countries.
Juicy financial scandals and frauds of being owners of the Daewoo company became the cause of that in 2011 Americans declared that the automobile brand under the name Daewoo doesn't exist any more, thus remained divisions of Daewoo continue to function.
Now one of divisions of Daewoo is engaged in gas production in Burma, another investments, and the third - production of electric devices. Generally, it everything that remained from once large Asian auto giant. In memory of ordinary people the automobile brand of Daewoo will associate with the available and high-quality Daewoo Lanos car. Lanosa now it is possible to meet almost on all roads of the former Soviet Union and at all it isn't believed that the Daewoo company already isn't present.
